I love economics because I feel like it is a wide field, and you can almost always find a topic that you will find worth exploring. I feel like that is represented in the variety of economics courses I have been able to take at Hopkins. Being exposed to many different classes both related to macro and microeconomics has been one of the most satisfying experiences because I have been able to learn a lot at both levels.

Internships focused on sustainable finance

Last summer I had the opportunity to intern at a sustainable finance think tank where I had to analyze asset allocation trends across time. In the internship, I also had the chance to work on a project aimed at determining whether a financial product (such as a stock, bond, or fund) having ESG labeling affected its performance. I had to run regressions using statistical software tools like Python and R, and that experience helped me when I took econometrics with Professor Li last fall. I am also currently working on my senior thesis related to the implications of migration from Latin American countries in terms of policies and human capital.

Mentorship

I am currently working on my senior thesis and my advisor is Dr. Giovanna Dore Dore. Dr. Dore is very well-versed in international development, so having her as my mentor has been incredibly helpful when understanding the findings from the data I am using. I have also found that here at Hopkins every professor I have had at the economics department has been very supportive when I have asked them for help, whether it is about research opportunities that I want to get involved in or just questions about assignments.
