As part of a multi-disciplinary team of researchers from across Johns Hopkins University, Assistant Professor Anton Korinek has won a JHU Discovery Award to study the societal costs of antimicrobial resistance. The Discovery Awards are designed to bring together expertise from across the university to tackle big problems in topics such as health, society, and the ecosystem. Professor Korinek is contributing his expertise in analyzing externalities to the project. The research team has already contributed a background paper to the UK Review on Antimicrobial Resistance – an influential initiative by the British government with the goal of lowering the worldwide use of antibiotics in order to stem the rise of resistant bacteria.
